BANDUNG, KOMPAS – The West Java Provincial Government has denied reports of a hack involving the personal data of 4.6 million residents. The police will investigate the veracity of the news that has gone viral in the media.
This news was previously circulated by the DigitalGhostt account on social media X on July 10, 2025. In the post, the DigitalGhostt account used a narrative in English.

Various parties have also shared this post on several social media platforms such as Tiktok and Instagram. However, the West Java Provincial Government ensures that the information regarding the leakage of residents’ personal data claimed by an anonymous account on social media X is not in accordance with the facts.
“Based on the results of the investigation and validation that has been carried out, we confirm that the data leak claim is not true,” said the Head of the West Java Communication and Informatics Agency (Diskominfo), Adi Komar, in a press release received by Kompas, Monday (28/7/2025).
Adi emphasized that the West Java Provincial Government is committed to safeguarding government data and the personal data of the public. This effort is being carried out through the strengthening of information security technology.
Another approach is coordination with relevant government agencies and raising awareness among all officials regarding the importance of protecting personal data and government strategic data.
“We continue to strengthen our information security system. The aim is to be able to respond to various potential digital threats, including issues that may not necessarily have a valid basis, such as those circulating at present,” he emphasized.
He also appealed to the public to remain calm and not be easily provoked by information whose source and truth are unclear.
“We invite the public to respond to information on social media wisely, and if there is anything that raises doubts, to promptly confirm with the relevant authorities,” he added.
The Head of the Public Relations Division of the West Java Regional Police, Commissioner Hendra Rochmawan, has not yet provided information regarding the dissemination of personal data theft affecting 4.6 million citizens. He stated that he would seek confirmation from the Cyber Crime Directorate of the West Java Regional Police for the handling of this information.
