Ramadan will present a few more weeks again. As a majority countries of Muslim, Indonesian people have tradition to welcome the holy month. Every tradition has a deep meaning, friendship between residents or self-purification. In Jawa Tengah the tradition to welcoming the Ramadan is an interesting tourist attraction to follow.
These are the tradition ahead of Ramadan in 2025 in Jawa Tengah along with the dates of their implementation.
GREBEG MAKUKUHAN
Grebeg Makukuhan is a tradition to welcome the Ramadan for the Kedu Village, Kedu District, Temanggung Regency will be held on February 6-9, 2025. According from Instagram @gebeg.makukuhan, the event will be start with a grand recitation, Khoul Ki Ageng Makukuhan,Sadranan, Kedu Wayang Performance, Art Performance: the beautiful of culture in art and creativity of the community, and the Grand Carnival & Langse Carnival.
GEBYURAN BUSTAMAN
According to pariwisata.semarangkota.go.id, Gebyuran Bustaman is a water war ceremony with the purpose of cleaning ourselves from sins before fasting month of Ramadan. It has been held since 1742 and pioneered by Kyai Bustam. This year, Gebyuran Bustaman is going to be held on February 25th, 2025 in Bustaman Village, Semarang City.
DUGDER PROCESSION
As stated in the Semarang Calendar of Events 2025, the people of Semarang City celebrate the arrival of Ramadan with the Dugder tradition. This tradition is marked by the beating of the bedug drum and the firing of cannons. It begins with the beating of the bedug at Semarang City Hall, followed by a parade of Warak Ngendog towards the Grand Mosque. Warak Ngendog is a mythical creature with the body of a goat, a long neck like a camel, a dragon-like head, and an egg at the tip of its tail. The Dugder procession this year will take place on February 27, 2025.
MEGENGAN
According to pariwisata.demakkab.go.id, Mengengan is a tradition in the Demak community. The word of ‘Megengan’ it takes from Javanese which means to hold back. The tradition event is held to remind the community of the coming of Ramadan, a month which in all of Muslim community are required to carry out the fasting. Taking place at Demak town square, Mengengan 2025 will take place D-1 before Ramadan and will be enlivened by a cultural parade.
PADUSAN
In klatenkab.go.id mention that Padusan is Javanese tradition in welcoming Ramadan which has the meaning of purifying soul and body. The Klaten Regency Government held Padusan at the Cokro Spring Object. Padusan tradition in Klaten usually filled with a series of events, such as a procession of the Gunungan Sedekah Bumi, distribution of apem cake and udik-udik and not to mention entertainment for the community. Beside Klaten, the Boyolali Regency Boyolali Government also held Padusan at Umbul Pengging and Umbul Tlatar. Padusan in Boyolali start with with a cultural prcession then a Padusan ritual by tourism ambassador as symbol of the Boyolali community.
