PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) is exploring the provision of natural gas supply and infrastructure for the Jatengland Industrial Area in Central Java as part of its commitment to expanding the utilization of natural gas to support national industrial growth.
On Monday, March 17, 2025, PGN and PT Jawa Tengah Lahan Andalan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to supply and develop gas infrastructure for tenants in the industrial area. Both parties will coordinate to realize the potential gas distribution according to the needs of industries in Jatengland.
“The government is targeting increased industrial competitiveness through the use of natural gas. PGN is committed to supporting this goal by supplying gas to Jatengland, initially using the beyond pipeline mode,” PGN’s Commercial Director, Ratih Esti Prihatini, said as quoted in a statement on Friday, March 21, 2025.
She expressed optimism that this collaboration would run smoothly, ensuring that Jatengland’s gas needs are met promptly.
PGN currently manages an integrated natural gas infrastructure in Central Java, facilitating gas distribution to Jatengland. Through its subsidiaries, PGN will supply natural gas in the form of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) from nearby stations. Additionally, the pipeline infrastructure network is connected to the Cisem 1 and Gresem Pipelines, which transport gas from East Java.
In alignment with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), the integration of natural gas infrastructure aims to ensure a stable and reliable supply of gas to various industrial sectors in Central Java. This integration is part of the optimization strategy for gas sources from the Jambaran Tiung Biru Field (Blora Working Area), the Long-Term Plan (LTP) for Cepu Working Area (Cendana – Alas Tua Fields), and the Tuban Working Area (Sumber-2 Field).
PGN’s Semarang area serves over 17,500 customers, including households, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), commercial establishments, industries, and power plants. In the industrial sector, PGN currently supplies gas to the Batang Industrial Estate (KIT Batang) and Kendal Industrial Park (KI Kendal).
Following the integration of the gas pipeline infrastructure, gas distribution in Central Java ranges from 60 to 70 Billion British Thermal Unit per Day (BBTUD), with supply sourced from Jambaran Tiung Biru (JTB) and Kepodang. The Semarang area also has CNG filling stations at Kaligawe, Penggaron, and Mangkang to supply CNG needs.
