Bank BJB's Alleged Corruption Drains State Funds Through Advertising Cost Markup

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Vice Chairperson of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Fitroh Rohcahyanto stated that one of the alleged corruption schemes at the West Java and Banten Regional Development Bank (BJB) is markup advertising costs.
“Yes, one of the schemes is markup,” Fitroh said to Tempo via a text message on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.
Agreeing with Fitroh, KPK Director of Investigation Asep Guntur Rahayu confirmed that the corruption at BJB resulted in state financial losses. The suspects used the markup scheme. “Yes, that’s correct,” he said briefly.
Quoting from the article in Tempo‘s edition of Wednesday, March 12, 2025, titled “How Ridwan Kamil Got Involved in Alleged Corruption in Bank BJB Advertising,” researcher at the Center for Anticorruption Studies at Gadjah Mada University, Zaenur Rohman, generally assessed that the legal construction in the Bank BJB case points to fraud, deliberate deception for profit.
Therefore, KPK may use Article 3, 2, 8, or 9 of the Corruption Law to ensnare the suspects. “The suspects’ actions have harmed the state finances through acts against the law or embezzlement in office,” he said.
On Wednesday, March 5, 2025, KPK announced that they had initiated an investigation into alleged corruption cases within PT Bank Pembangunan Daerah Jawa Barat and Banten (BJB) Tbk. “Yes, we have issued an investigation letter,” said KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto.
However, KPK has not yet announced the suspects in this case. Follow-up is the responsibility of the Investigator, the Director of Investigations, or the Deputy Chief of Enforcement.
